Here is a copy of what it means to me:

The Bible says that a long time ago in Bethlehem a child was born to a carpenter and his wife. The story goes that Joseph and Mary were poor and forced by the state to travel when Mary was about to give birth. There seemed to be no help anywhere and we can imagine Joseph turning over in his mind the news from Mary that it was not his baby and imagine Mary, a day before giving birth, being jarred up and down on a donkey's back, wondering whether Joseph will support her and forgive her. They arrive in Bethlehem and desperately search for somewhere to stay. They both realise that having a baby in the open could kill Mary and her baby. There is nowhere to stay except a place where they keep animals.

When the baby is born the love and devotion to this new little soul washes away all of the fears and anxieties of the previous days and there is rejoicing in this beautiful new life. Other people come and express their good wishes without question because this little life, like all other newborn creatures, is innocence. Even animals understand this and nuzzle the little baby. Poverty and misfortune are defeated by love and purity.
