A good friend of mine, who is older and much wiser than I, recently brought forth to my attention, a 70+ year old book of essays called, “The Urantia Book”. He has been studying these papers for many years and wanted to share them with me. So far, I have been blown away by the content within these pages.

Since the book is over 70 years old, you can actually download The Urantia Book for free since it is in the public domain now… there are also many great audio readings out there. Since this book has over 2000 pages, my preferred method of digestion of these texts is to read along while listening to the audio of the books. This helps me gather the messages more thoroughly, as the material is quite heady.

What is The Urantia Book?

The Urantia Book is not a complete religion. It does not have a clergy, a creed that one is required to believe in, or rules of behavior that one must follow. It is a book which has spawned two organizations, now called the Urantia Foundation and the Urantia Fellowship. The book is used by individuals of many religions as a spiritual guide.

The Urantia Book is

for people interested in life

for people who want something more than mere religion

for people who would like to discover their highest spiritual and personal potentials.

The book states that Urantia is an ancient name for the planet earth. It is a large book with over two thousand pages and almost 200 individual essays that reveal information about:

God,

other supernatural beings

the history of earth and of the rest of the universe

the development of humanity

the history, message and purpose of Yeshua of Nazareth, (a.k.a. Jesus Christ)

Why You Need to Know About The Urantia Book

Making good life decisions—the exercise of true wisdom—requires insight into the context in which the decision or choice is being made.

The Urantia Book provides a comprehensive overview of the context in which we live our daily lives — historical, social, personal, intellectual, spiritual, and material. It provides important background information that will deepen, enrich, and strengthen your relationship with God, empower you to prevail in your struggles with the difficulties of daily life, and enable you to participate creatively in the much-needed spiritual transformation of our world.

By integrating science, philosophy, and religion into a coherent world view, the Urantia Book enhances the meanings we derive from our life experience, equipping us to live our lives relative to positive, creative spiritual values in the midst of difficulty, chaos, and uncertainty.

I have just begun the journey of pouring through the 2100+ pages of The Urantia Book. In fact, I had been reading a PDF and listening to the audios, but last night, I picked up an actual copy of the book and listened to the foreward and read along. It appears that we have a long journey ahead of us as spiritual beings and I look forward to exploring all this universe has to offer.

If The Urantia Book intrigues and resonates with you, may I suggest you download the PDF of the book and grab the corresponding audio reading to listen to, as you read. The words and concepts are SO intellectual, that using both senses is really the only way to go.

Is letting go a means of Liberation? If Liberation is a process, how does it work and what do fear, anger and pain have to do with it?

What do we do when we are experiencing fear, anger or pain? The first thing is to actually notice and acknowledge what we are feeling. Next look where in our bodies it is vibrating. If we can do this we have immediately stopped being the emotion and it is now something happening, in a particular place, that we can be present to.

Where we find the emotion vibrating in the body we will find tension. This tension is the physicalizing of resistance we have to the feelings. The feelings are ‘past’ held by resistance in unconsciousness. Our resistance and denial then are directly reflected in the tension and holding in our bodies. By choosing to stop holding and allowing the body to open, we begin both the release of our resistance, and can also become conscious of the denial.

As the holding is largely subconscious, we first need to become aware that we are actually doing it. In the Living Liberation meditation practice, the aim is to develop an ongoing process of deepening, softening and opening, while remaining alert and attentive. ‘Holding’ will be reflected in different levels, physically, emotionally, mentally and other energetically subtler.

When we become conscious of a pattern of ‘holding’ on any level and begin to release and let go, there will be a corresponding softening on the other levels of our being. At different times engaging in the release process will begin at different levels, none is better than another. Each of us may also find a particular level an easier point of connection, some people it’s the physical, another emotional or mental.

Ideally whatever the initial point of connecting, we will develop the ability to follow its thread all the way through our ’system’ releasing on every level. As we are largely so mentally dominant we must be aware of the tendency to stay only on a mental level with our awareness. As we become more sensitive to the feeling level of our experience and can connect and release from here, the more thoroughly and effectively the release will be.

Softening and opening is not something that we do, it is what happens when we release the tension of holding and begin to let it go. We begin the movement from ‘doing’ to ‘being’. Where there is tension in the body we are doing something already, we are tensing, contracting, ‘holding’. Relaxing – softening and opening, is then stopping doing what we are doing already to maintain this holding.

Since we aren’t usually aware that we are ‘holding’, and it is the result of deeply entrenched habits and a physical response to the feelings held in the body, it is important to practice ‘letting go’ regularly and diligently.

The holding patterns that we notice when we pay attention to the feelings of tightness, tension and resistance in the body are there all the time, our bodies are ‘holding’ in this way all the time, and probably have been doing so for a long time. The process of the body letting go of these deep patterns of holding isn’t likely to be a speedy process; it will take time and continued attention and commitment. It is though in my experience and opinion the process of Liberation, available in every moment.

Karma, held within us as unresolved, unhealed or incomplete past, manifest as external reflections through the law of sympathetic attraction. The degree of intensity of the internal energy of the karma and it’s layers of emotional and mental energy will exactly be reflected by the intensity of energy that manifests as our life circumstances. When we are ‘present’ to our triggered response to the reflections of our karma, we allow the held energy to move and therefor transform. When we aren’t present to it and run our defense and denial scripts/stratergies we perpetuate denial and deepen separation

Each time we don’t allow any movement of the triggered feelings, we not only increase denial of what is held, but we also increase the intensity of the external reflection necessary to vibrate what we are holding. We bury things still deeper, so we need a stronger force to reach them. And if we continue in the pattern of denial, then an external circumstance will eventually come that will be so powerful that we will be unable to deny.

Life will not be indefinitely denied, and will always be seeking a means of moving and returning to movement and expansion. And so it is that ‘accidents’ come about in our lives, and so it is that disease comes can about. They are both examples of life asserting itself, and its need – indeed it’s nature – to seek movement and evolve. Our entire system, including the body, is designed for evolution, and therefore for self-healing; it is a self-healing system, when it is allowed to function without our resistance. We could say that the process of spiritual evolution is the surrender of resistance that maintains separation.

So life in its very nature, is constantly providing us with the circumstances for our liberation, for our healing. The journey of our healing, reclaiming, re-unifying all in us that is separate, and our spiritual evolution are one and the same – evolution in consciousness. There is nothing else going on – regardless of what anything appears to be or looks like or is believed to be. There is nothing but the ongoing process of liberation, the evolution of consciousness. Integrating this understanding brings us to a place where we can increasingly eliminate our resistance to, and align with, the process of our own healing and liberation.

Because we don’t want the experience of feeling what we are holding and deny it being there, the way that we view the places of separation in us – and the behaviors and beliefs arising from them – is largely as what is ‘wrong’ with us; where we fail; aren’t good enough, are unlovable….. We often feel if we could just get rid of or ‘fix’ such places in us we’d be fine; or possibly, more often, if someone else got rid of the reflection of them in themselves, that vibrates them in us, we’d be fine.

The out-picturing of this can be seen in the collective reflection of our attitude towards ‘appropriate’ emotional expression and the need to appear to be ok, be in control and to ‘understand’ or ‘know’. We fear the power of the feelings we are holding within us, we fear their ability to make us out of control. We fear that such an uncontrolled emotional state will prove we are as unlovable as we secretly believe we are.

THE SHIFT TO COMPASSION

When we can shift our perspective of awareness, and get beyond the appearance of symptoms of separation, and recognize them as arising from wounding, and as us where we have abandoned ourselves, where we are suffering, then the possibility of compassion towards ourselves and therefore to others is born.

We are so unpracticed in any real form of self-love that we need to practice. Always the requirement of us is to go below the surface go inwards into ourselves to seek the truth of what is within us and why. Only our committed courage and self-honesty will be powerful enough to penetrate the patterns of denial, and release what is held.

Eventually, we get to a point when we can welcome the arrival of reflections that resonate with separation within us. We see that it is where we meet the ground of our liberation, where we are offered an opportunity for the healing of our wounds, and for unification of separation. The places of separation are the means of our liberation.

We can conclude then that our Karma is like a blueprint of our evolutionary pathway, our healing and spiritual process. Karma is the internal map of our process of Living Liberation, that life will present to us.

This we will call the Law of Sympathetic Attraction or as it is more popularly know now the ‘Law of Attraction’.

We commonly know the law of sympathetic attraction as ‘like attracts like’. However, less obviously but equally important, the term also covers the principle that ‘opposites attract’ – opposites being the polarized extremes of the same principle.

In the creation of karma – that which we are holding in denial, in separation, in sub-consciousness as karma, is held at the particular vibrational frequency at which movement was stopped, for example pain, fear or rage. Even held still, that which is denied is held in the magnetic energy field of the emotional body, albeit disconnected from conscious awareness.

Through the law of sympathetic attraction, the separation in us, attracts to us a reflection of a corresponding vibrational frequency to that at which it is held. The purpose being, that the external reflection of what ever it is that we are holding in sub-consciousness, is attracted to us to create a vibrational resonance.

When the external manifestation comes, the resonance begins to vibrate what it reflects within us (that we are attempting to hold still). In vibrating, what is held within us is caused to move. When it moves we begin to feel it: and when we feel it we can become conscious of it; when we are conscious of it, we can then be present to it. We can then allow it to move, and allow it the expression it needs to resume its movement and transformation into expansion and life.

We release what we are holding by allowing the feelings to move – by feeling and expressing them in appropriate ways. Allowing them to move, allows what is held in denial of life to resume the movement in the expansion and evolution of consciousness; and to be transformed from the fixed frequency and form in which it was held. As we experience such release, understanding often arises from the feelings of what was held and the scripts and behaviors that have been wrapped around it, and thus the subconscious becomes conscious.

KARMA (Subconscious) > REFLECTION < Resonating / Vibrating > MOVEMENT > RELEASE > HEALING > UNIFICATION > LIBERATION (Conscious)

In this way we can reclaim those places from sub-consciousness and separation, and re-unify them into the entirety of our being. Not only do we liberate the energetic life-force that is held still as denied feeling, but we also liberate the energy that is required to keep holding that place still. So, we reclaim our life-force, our ‘power’ and become that much more present in and to ourselves.

REFLECTIONS OF SEPARATION

The experiences we have in life, that come to us where we experience pain, separation or suffering of any kind, are reflections of places in us where those energies and patterns are held. We couldn’t feel what we feel, unless it was already within us to be felt. Our feelings do not come from outside, they are not created by the external circumstance. The external is not the cause of the feelings; it is simply a reflection of what is already held within us; it serves as the ‘trigger’. It is in fact the mechanism of our healing, the means of our liberation. The external, however painful is putting us in the place where our liberation can occur, right here, right now in the present moment.

Equally, all the unified experiences that life brings us – be they joy, harmony or love – are reflections of what is within us. Scripts arising from separation like “I’m not good enough” or “I’m unlovable” often do not allow us to fully receive, accept or believe the unified reflections, as us.

Very often what is held within us, is painful, traumatic, uncomfortable, distressing, terrifying, all the things that we didn’t ant to feel and probably still don’t. So when an external reflection begins to resonate with those places within us, and we begin to feel them, habitually we put even more energy into holding them still and we put even more energy into denying those feelings. In doing this, we add more energy to what it is we are already holding. So the intensity, the quantity of energy that is held increases, and the energy needed to hold it still, and prevent us from feeling it, increases. We tie up more life force, more of our power, and give it over to denial, give it over to sub-consciousness and lose even more presence. This is how Karma perpetuates and holds our awareness in unconsciousness.

Yoga has been such an amazing part of my journey to wholeness and balance and I am so grateful to myself for making and sticking with my commitment to the practice. This week I was reading Yoga Journal and there was an article about having a home practice. I started my practice at a gym a little over 5 years ago and about 4 years ago I brought it home with a video that a friend had given me of Rodney Yee.

Rodney and I have a date now just about every morning for AM Stretch. I love this video because its only 20 minutes. Heck anybody can squeeze 20 minutes in right? “They” say that 20 minutes of practice several times a week is as good for you if not better than a full hour and a half practice.

So I’m reading this article and it’s talking about different sequences you can try and different times of the day that you can practice and how having a home practice can seem a little daunting at first to most people because they just can’t figure out how to do yoga with out a little help and guidance from a teacher.

This is why I love Rodney, he’s with me every morning – by now I’ve actually memorized the entire video. He’s consistent, always there and he’s my favorite way to start the day. The thing that’s nice about doing the same video every morning is I really get to see where I’m at. Some days I’m not on the mat at all and I catch myself doing my leg stretch about 10 seconds ahead of Rodney – this would be a day where I’m ahead of myself. Other days I listen to my body and give myself extra time in Down Dog – this is where I’m really in touch with what my body needs. Then we have days like today. The funny thing about home practice is of course you are doing it at home!

So here we go starting out with a little relaxation to get present:

Rodney – “Surrender to the Earth”

Upstairs – CRAAASH (“Sorry Ms. Wyldfyre – I dropped the chair”, says Nate my son’s buddy who slept over)

Now we move through the relaxation process and we are really cooking – moving our legs left, and right, stretching the arms out to the side, now we’re in bridge pose. What a great morning! Moving along now we roll over into cobra, now back to the mat, now updog – What’s that? Updog????

Kack, Kack, Kack – It’s the sound of my 17 year old labrador making vomit on the floor – quick off the mat, run to the kitchen, shoo the cat away, grab the paper towels! Bend, stretch, squat, wipe, run for the rubbish barrel, Ack out of paper towels – shoo kitty get away from the there, wipe some more, ok all cleaned up! Now where were we?

Oops – missed Downdog, missed Lunge, missed Supported Chair Pose – God Rodney’s already back on the floor, no standing poses today.

Alright, lets get focused and back on the mat again – Staff Pose into the twist, moving right along twisting to the left, twisting to the right, cleanse those toxins, now cross legged, now up on the pillow for the final forward bends and prepare for meditation.

Closing the eyes, feeling the head right over the chest (WOOF!) , focusing on the breath (WOORF!), feeling the eyes relax back into the head (WOOF! WOOF! WOOF! Pukey dog wants in but he’s going to have to wait) Now entering into 2 minutes of meditation to center the mind (WOOF! WOORF! WOORF!) (MEOW, MRow – now Kitty is joining the chorus).

And me? I’m in the silence. Centered, balanced, focused, and serene – WHAT??? My 2 minutes is up? Thank you God for Yoga, for Rodney, for Kids and Cats and Dogs and Life. It’s all good. Wonder what my practice will be like tomorrow…….

Have a great day!

There is a philosophy called HUNA from ancient Polynesia… it is a fabulous study on the way things work in the universe and its several thousand years old. One of the things they say is “Everything is Working Out Perfectly” or EWOP.

When you tie this into what you read in the book, Journey of Souls, by Michael Newton. You realize that you CHOSE this path prior to coming to Earth, and that you have some big lesson or lessons that you are here to work on. Some major purpose.

As we all know, our purpose is NOT to just get by and to make ends meet, but to excel and to move forward down our spiritual paths.

Apparently, in the end, we all become spiritual teachers on the journey for souls that aren’t as far down that path as we are… and eventually we get to a point in which we no longer reincarnate on Earth as our souls progress to higher levels of understanding… of course, with each life, comes harder lessons… but we choose this in advance.

So, it boils down to the fact that all of our existence is a divine creation… a path that we CHOSE to take. It’s not easy, but once we learn this, it seems to make the journey a little lighter a whole lot less stressful… less stress…. less worry. We just need to glean the lesson from within.

Sounds wild, eh? But it feels like the truth… I’m WAY less stressed than I used to be… it seems to take some of the edge off, knowing how the universe actually works!

P.S. You can preview the book and read most all of it at Google Books

Much Love & Light

The link between spirituality and happiness is pretty well-established for teens and adults. More spirituality brings more happiness. Now a study has reached into the younger set, finding the same link in “tweens” and in kids in middle childhood.

Specifically, the study shows that children who feel that their lives have meaning and value and who develop deep, quality relationships — both measures of spirituality, the researchers claim — are happier.

Personal aspects of spirituality (meaning and value in one’s own life) and communal aspects (quality and depth of inter-personal relationships) were both strong predictors of children’shappiness, said study leader Mark Holder from the University of British Columbia in Canada and his colleagues Ben Coleman and Judi Wallace.

However, religious practices were found to have little effect on children’s happiness, Holder said.

Religion is just one institutionalized venue for the practice of or experience of spirituality, and some people say they are spiritual but are less enthusiastic about the concept of God.

Other research has shown a connection between well-adjusted and well-behaved children and religion, but that is not the same, necessarily, as happiness.

Spirituality trumps temperament

In an effort to identify strategies to increase children’s happiness, Holder and colleagues set out to better understand the nature of the relationship between spirituality, religiousness and happiness in children aged 8 to 12 years.

A total of 320 children, from four public schools and two faith-based schools, completed six different questionnaires to rate their happiness, their spirituality, their religiousness and their temperament. Parents were also asked to rate their child’s happiness and temperament.

A child’s temperament was also an important predictor of happiness. In particular, happier children were more sociable and less shy. The relationship between spirituality and happiness remained strong, even when the authors took temperament into account.

However, counterintuitively, religious practices — including attending church, praying and meditating — had little effect on a child’s happiness.

And therein may lie some useful information for parents.

“Enhancing personal meaning may be a key factor in the relation between spirituality and happiness,” the researchers stated. Strategies aimed at increasing personal meaning in children — such as expressing kindness towards others and recording these acts of kindness, as well as acts of altruism and volunteering — may help to make children happier, Holder suggests.

These findings were detailed in the Dec. 11 online edition of the Journal of Happiness Studies.

More on teens and spirituality

Another research project recently added weight to previously known links between spirituality and happiness among teens.

This researchers compared teenagers with the inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) with their healthy peers. The analysis showed that while spirituality helped all the kids cope, it was especially helpful for the ones with IBD (which causes abdominal pain and other nasty symptoms, as well as higher risk for psychosocial difficulties and mental health problems; it is more serious than and not the same as IBS or spastic colon). The exact cause of IBD is not known, and there is no cure.

The researchers, Dr. Michael Yi and Sian Cotton at the University of Cincinnati, defined spirituality as one’s sense of meaning or purpose in life or one’s sense of connectedness to the sacred or divine. Again, they weren’t talking about religion, church, temple or mosque.

Teams led by Yi and Cotton collected data on socio-demographics, functional health status and psychosocial characteristics as well as spiritual well-being for 67 patients with IBD and 88 healthy adolescents between the ages of 11 and 19.

One of the most important predictors of poorer overall quality of life for both the healthy and the sick teens was having a poorer sense of spiritual well-being, Yi said, although personal characteristics such as self esteem, family functioning and social support were similar between adolescents with IBD and their healthy peers.

Less depression, more well-being

Cotton’s analysis of the same 155 adolescents found that higher levels of spiritual well-being were associated with fewer depressive symptoms and better emotional well-being.

“However, even though both healthy adolescents and those with IBD had relatively high levels of spiritual well-being, the positive association between spiritual well-being and mental health outcomes was stronger in the adolescents with IBD as compared to their healthy peers,” Cotton said, noting that this indicates spiritual well-being may play a different role for teens with a chronic illness in terms of impacting their health or helping them cope.

The results were detailed in recent online versions of the Journal of Pediatrics and the Journal of Adolescent Health. Yi’s and Cotton’s research was funded by career development awards by the National Institute for Child Health and Human Development, part of the National Institutes of Health.

As a scientist I value productivity, creativity, and effectiveness. Twenty-five years ago during my involvement with cancer clinical trials I was shaken by a young person’s death. I decided to investigate the spiritual realm. I found spiritual teachings that can be merged with my scientific perspective. This “scientific spirituality” has been responsible for much of my growth.

Life is like a collage of vignettes from our personal contacts, professional aspirations, needy passions, and dealing with the “hygiene” issues of handling all the details of our daily lives. Often rifts develop between competing demands for our time, attention, and commitment. Optimum effectiveness involves wise juggling of all the needs and prioritizing the “wants” while healing the rifts. I believe that the use of scientific spirituality is the surest method to maximize productivity.

“Scientific spirituality” seems like an oxymoron. Generally one doesn’t think that science supports spirituality. What is it? It is using a scientifically proven method to find our true self. The “spiritual” I discuss is not religion. To me “spirit” is our true essence. If a person is in tune with his or her spirit it means that that they can be in tune with the spirit of a co-worker or a loved one. Scientific studies support spiritual assertions of meditation’s benefits.

Meditation is but one of several methods to access the spiritual realm. Having been an executive officer in a highly competitive industry for over 20 years, I find scientific spirituality invaluable in accessing the part of me which is best able to resolve conflicts, prioritize my time, and illuminate the path to success and my passions.

How many times have we acted out of extreme emotion then realize the error after relaxing or a good night sleep? Many times we might feel overwhelmed by a problem or issue. The expression “sleep on it” is excellent advice. I have experienced tremendous insight on key issues at 4 o’clock in the morning in a half-sleep state. This is another way to access our spiritual self.

Spirituality teaches ways to quiet the mind. Scientific studies validate that during meditation specific brain functions cease and access to creativity occurs. Stress triggers the opposite in the brain where “scream-like messages” drown out the logical and creative. Meditation is merely quieting the mind so that the best of you can be heard and recognized. Whether or not you consider yourself spiritual, accessing your true self allows wise priorities and creative solutions.

For those who find meditation difficult I recommend sitting quietly in a comfortable position with your eyes closed and concentrating on a moment in your life which you cherish. Recall the surroundings, the sounds, the sights, the smells, and your feelings. Then allow yourself to lock in that moment by playing it over and over again with one hand making an OK sign by touching your thumb and forefinger.

Whenever you need to access this state sit quietly and make the OK sign. This is called NLP or neuroligistic programming another proven method to quite the brain.

You might think that the patterns which you developed in handling stress, fear, and anger cannot be changed. If so, I want to change your mind by rewiring your brain.

Use your mind to change your brain. I have utilized meditation to help individuals for two decades. Coincidentally, only in the last two decades has science recognized that the brain can be rewired. Until the 1980s the dogma was that after adolescence the brain’s connections cannot be changed. Now we know that meditation can change the brain. The paradigm that brain creates mind is replaced with mind mapping our brain wiring.

In the 1980s it was discovered that obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) patients who practiced meditation could rewire their brains and hence reduce or eliminate the OCD urges. The unwanted urges to incessantly wash one’s hands or to constantly worry if a door was left unlocked can prevent individuals from holding a job or retaining relationships. In a meditative state, if the patients focused on an enjoyable activity such as sitting in their garden rather than washing their hands, the brain became rewired diminishing the OCD impulse and strengthening the connections to alternate thoughts and behavior. Brain scans before, during, and after such exercises provide unequivocal evidence that mind changes brain.

In like manner, let’s rewire the brain. In a relaxed meditative state recall a time when fear or anger triggered a response you would like to take back. Now imagine the appropriate response to replace the one you wanted to take back. Ok, now insert the new response. Recall other situations you wish to reframe and repeat this exercise. The more times you repeat it the more you will strengthen your ability to respond in an appropriate manner.

Like the OCD patients you can eliminate stress instantly by focusing on something pleasant and making the OK sign.

To heal the rifts in our lives, utilize this tool of scientific spirituality. As the wise one in you develops the winning strategies and the jackpots arrive realize that you have accessed the spiritual you.
